The artist studied at the Academy of Art in Duesseldorf, then at artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. At the end of the 19th century, he moved to Munich, where he was recognized as a portrait painter, worked as a professor at the Academy of Art and taught painting to many future famous painters. He was a court portraitist, executed portraits of German nobility (incl. Luise Victoria of Prussia and Ernst August, Herzof von Braunschweig and Luneburg), also landscape sketches, still natures and dog paintings. He exhibited several times at the Glaspalast in Munich (1904-1911 and 1929). several of his works are part of official collections and museums.
