the beautiful works of this great painter are RARE good condition very large dimensions: 59 cm * 47.8 Alphonse Georges Fournier, commonly called Georges Fournier was born September 15, 1855 in Paris 10th and died March 10, 1931 in Versailles, is a French painter, ceramist and photographer. Biography[edit | modify the code] Grandson of the candlestick François Marcel Fournier (November 24, 1775 – September 28, 1860). Son of the merchant, Alphonse François Fournier (March 1, 1812 – May 14, 1899), and Esther Honorine Caillot (May 25, 1818 – June 23, 1892) who ran a business, the “Tallerie store” from 1840 to 1872, at 7 rue de la Barn at Les Belles, Paris 10th. Georges was born on September 15, 1855 at his parents' home, 218 rue du faubourg Saint-Martin, Paris 10th. His brother was Ernest Fournier (8 May 1841 – 14 June 1897), architect. He studied in Paris at the Stanislas high school, then at the "Central School of Arts and Manufacture" in Paris from 1877 to 1879, commonly called "Centrale". He began his career as an engineer "inspector" of the railways in Pau from 1880 to 1885. Then took over the artistic direction of the Faïencerie Pierre-Claude Poussin, 17 rue de la faïencerie in Bourg-la-Reine, from 1886 to 1888. He became the owner but went bankrupt in 1889. Thereafter he devoted himself to painting and had his own painting studio at 90 rue d'Assas in Paris 6th. He married Elisabeth Marie Pinart (born in Rennes on November 2, 1870 – December 22, 1932) in Paris in February 1892. They had four children, Germaine born in 1893, Jean in 1895 (chemical engineer at Saint-Gobain), Marthe in 1900 and Marie in 1901. Elisabeth is from Boulonnais, from a family of forge masters. Her second uncle was ethnologist explorer Alphonse Pinart. Georges and his family lived mainly in Paris and Versailles. In 1913, he had a holiday home “Kerlann” built in Concarneau, at 6 rue Jaques Toiray, according to his own plans. This villa, designed for artists, had a large workshop on the 2nd floor with an east-facing glass roof to get the white light in the morning. It is located in the artists' district of the “Ecole de Concarneau” next to the houses of the painters Emmi Leuze Hirschfel and her husband Emil-Benediktoff Hirschfeld, Fernand Legout-Gérard and Alfred Guillou. He died at Versailles at the age of 76 as a result of a stroke. Works[edit | edit code] Paintings[edit | modify the code] He worked the week in his studio rue d'Assas and returned home to Versailles at the end of the week. There he produced numerous works, oils, gouaches, pastels and drawings from Paris and its surroundings as well as from Brittany. He was associated with the "society of independent artists"1 and exhibited, among others, in 1906 at the 22nd "salon of independents"2 at the greenhouses of the city of Paris, Cours de la Reine Paris 8 th. A personal exhibition took place on April 5, 1897 in Paris at the gallery “Le Barc de Boutteville” 3 at 47 rue le Pelletier Paris.
