De Soete was already put to work at the age of eight. He was orphaned at the age of fourteen. He enrolled at the drawing academy in Molenbeek. During this period, he did all sorts of odd jobs to earn a living. In 1900, he became an apprentice in the polishing service of the Compagnie des Bronzes. Shortly after, he was promoted to the publishing department and worked on sculptures by famous sculptors such as Julien Dillens, Constantin Meunier and Jef Lambeaux. As an autodidact, he learned modeling and modeling with the intention of becoming a sculptor himself. A bronze foundry in Anderlecht appointed him in 1911 to head one of its departments. From 1924, he began full-time as a sculptor. He received numerous commissions, including war memorials, the first major achievement in 1926 being the Brussels monument to pilots and balloonists who fell during the war. From then on, he specialized in official orders for busts, medals or portraits. He produced a number of monumental works reminiscent of images of authoritarian regimes in the 1930s.
