"Music Cabinet In Tinted Beech, Asian Spirit, Attributed To G. Viardot - 1900"
Music Binder in Tinted Beech, attributed to Gabriel Viardot (1830 - 1904). This Parisian Cabinetmaker, specializing in the production of Japanese furniture, will see his talent rewarded - among other things - with a Legion of Honor in 1885. It consists in the upper part of an openwork panel, carved with decorations characteristic of Asian Art , such as an imaginary Reptilian creature and a group of flowers. This bottom also serves as a support for a small tablet, the sides of which have been cut in opposition to each other. Below, this piece of furniture offers two intermediate shelves, connected to each other by overflowing and convex uprights. Those of the front, in Angles, are embellished with winged animals in Bronze. The upper edges of this open niche thus formed are embellished with Openwork Beech Galleries. The bottom of this piece of furniture is made up of four Music compartments, compartments initially designed to serve as storage for the scores. The sides of this lower part are partially closed by cut-out panels, forming oriental decorations. The Artist Viardot has imagined here a light extra piece of furniture, with reasonable dimensions, and whose exoticism we will appreciate. ******** Period: 1900 Perfect condition after restoration.
