Large and rare representation of Saint (e) Eugene-Eugenie in carved, gilded and polychrome walnut, from the 18th century. It shows a holy monk standing in ecstasy, opening his tunic, revealing his chest. In fact, it is Saint Eugenie, a Roman virgin who suffered martyrdom under Valerian. Disguised as a man to be able to sing in a religious order, he (she) is accused of rape by a rich Roman and condemned to the lions. To exculpate herself she proves, by opening her tunic and showing her breasts, that being a woman, she cannot have raped.
