Object description :

"Commode Transition Of Ceremony Model Of Riesner Stamped The Exellent Paris Late XIX Ieme"
Transitional style chest of drawers from the Napoleon III period after a model by Riesener and made by the large cabinetmaking workshop Lexcellent in Paris. The chest of drawers is exceptional in quality of marquetry and gilded bronzes. The bronzes are very chiseled and the gilding is 2 tones with matte and shiny. It opens on the front with a large drawer and a leaf. The work of the marquetry of the central door is typical and identical to the model of Riesener cabinetmaker of the king. The decor is a basin with flowers on its base. The species of wood that make it up are very varied (mahogany, lemon tree, cedar, maple, etc.) The gilded bronze trim is exceptional: the 4 claw feet of lion paws end with 2 acanthus leaves and are raised by a basement. The curves of the legs are deliberately exaggerated to reinforce the seat of the chest of drawers. The bronze end of the lamp is decorated with a pinecone and acanthus leaves. The 4 false drawers, led sides and the door are lined with bronze rods in stripes of heart and surrounded by rosettes in gilded bronze. The large drawer is lined with a frieze decorated with intertwining ovals and rosettes. The 2 falls are richly lined with foliage. The chest of drawers has a projection on the front and curved on its sides. It is topped with a Carrara marble with projection and double grooves 4 cm thick. Other small details confirm the quality such as the double marquetry net (light and dark) on all the frames and the rods present everywhere. It is entirely mounted on an oak frame. All the bronzes have been cleaned and the chest of drawers revarnished. Lexellent was born in 1834 and opened its first store and workshop in 1867 at 46 rue Charreton in Paris. And another store at 8 rue de Brégut. He exhibited at the universal exhibitions where he received a silver medal in 1889. Other ceremonial chests of drawers are visible on our site. Welcome to our store in Nice opposite the Masséna museum and just behind the famous Negresco hotel.
