Ceramic Vase by Marian Zawadzki for Tilgmans Keramik

This rare piece, dating from the mid-20th century, wonderfully illustrates Swedish design of the time and bears the mark of the talent of Marian Zawadzki (1912-1978). A renowned ceramic artist, Zawadzki, who started as a teacher before joining the Tilgmans Keramik house in Gothenburg, helped popularize the sgraffito technique, characteristic of the Tilgmans workshop. 

This modernist style vase, with a refined shape, is decorated with a geometric decoration with small colored touches. The combination of unglazed, deliberately raw parts and polished finishes creates a harmonious contrast typical of sgraffito. The shiny interior, covered with a turquoise blue glaze, adds a vibrant and bright touch.

Condition: superb, with no cracks or repairs. Presence of negligible micro-chips and normal wear for its age.

Marks and numbering: Stamp “Tilgmans Keramik Made in Sweden” and model number “618” below.
