17th century wedding cup in silver from the Louis XIV period Hallmarks of Dijon 1683 (Letter B) Hallmarks of charge 1683-1684 (P surmounted by a lily; crown) By the master goldsmith BRENOT jacques received in 1658 and died in 1710 It rests on a pedestal with large gadroons; Patronymic engraved on the edge "A*BONTAMS" The handles decorated with applique fasteners representing scallop shells To date, and according to the reference documentation on Burgundy goldsmithery, the oldest known wedding cup and referenced, dates from 1685-1686 and of the same model. Page 379, lot 44 "the Goldsmiths of Burgundy" The one offered here, therefore becomes the oldest known to date. Pieces of goldsmithery from the 17th century in the provinces are rare.
