Obviously here, the level of quality and seniority are not the same… Neither is the price.
It is a production probably dating from the end of the 19th century, but unlike the many neo-medieval Western achievements of the Viollet-le-duc period, here we are in the presence of a heavy, solid helmet. that weighs more than 4 kg.
The skull is in one part, faceted, it ends in a pointed part which is riveted on the lower part.
The visor is riveted to the stamp by 6 iron rivets. The earmuffs are made of iron, with a decorative part in thick brass cut out.
They are connected to the skull by chainmail rings. The chainmail is with joined rings and not riveted, as in the 16th century, it also covers most of the face. It is in good condition with very slight lacks that are very easy to repair.
The whole piece was quite oxidized and received surface protection which accentuates the dark color. It would be possible if desired to polish all the metal parts to obtain a clearer appearance, but I preferred to leave this helmet in its discovery state.
The neck protector is in one piece, it pivots on 2 small hinges.
The nasal is mobile, it presents an empty central part, like the model of the Metropolitan Museum. It ends with a large decorative pattern in brass.
I am not selling this helmet for its historical side, but for its decorative aspect, at a price that is related (a 16th century Turkish helmet of this type, apart from being very rare, would be much more expensive…)
Total height with mesh size 67 cm, without the camail = 45 cm
