Beautiful writing desk in blackened pear made by the Tahan house, located rue de la paix in Paris in the middle of the 19th century. Cabinetmaker to Emperor Napoleon III, Tahan exclusively supplied imperial furniture. This luxurious object of Parisian quality is embellished with ebony moldings and chiseled brass fillets. On the top, the molded edge presents a succession of three brass nets which frame an important motif with inlays of brass, mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell. In the center, a plaque illustrated with initials is surrounded by intertwining arabesques, leaves and flowers. A delicately carved key allows the opening of this writing desk. The original engraved lock – TAHAN – is in perfect working order. The Rosewood interior has storage space and two small drawers with ebony pull knobs.
