"Chankay. Perù Doll."
Chancay, Perù doll. Difficult to know the exact age of this traditional tribal doll, made with ancien textiles, and fulfilled with organic materials inside its body.
This kind of dolls were appreciated by French Avant-garde artists as a strongly impressive magic objects. ( see Andre Breton collection in Centre Pompidou).
The origins of this dolls is to be connected with Pre-Colombian burial rituals in Latin America. They were though to represent soul of buried ancestors.
This doll probably is from XIX century, it comes from private collection of “Art premier” in South of France.
