Biography
Born in Rome in 1891, he first attended the Technical Institute and then the Evening School of Painting. In 1908, abandoning course attendance, he became an apprentice at the studio of decorator and restorer Giovanni Capranesi. In 1911 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and these were the years of his first reflections on the use of light in paintings, a theme he later resumed in his Venetian vedute. It was during the academy that he began to exhibit his works first at the Società Amatori e Cultori di Belle Arti, where he himself was fascinated by the works of Cezanne and Matisse, and then at the III Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte della Secessione Romana. In 1924 he was acclaimed by the public and critics for a work presented at the 14th Venice Biennale entitled "Tram" where the depiction is not yet completely dissolved but the figures are immersed in a rarefied atmosphere. In 1926 he participated in the first exhibition of the "Novecento" movement while maintaining a strong personal identity.Guidi proceeded in his research almost always by cycles of subjects such as Giudecca, faces, seascapes, eyes and the sky. He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and died on January 7, 1984.
