"Sculpture – Solid Silver Statuette By Alexandre-auguste Caron"
Alexandre-Auguste Caron (1857-1932). Solid silver sculpture, hallmark 925/000. It rests on a square stepped base in green onyx. Signed twice ''A.Caron'' on the embankment and on its margin accompanied by the foundry mark ''IHF Fondeur.Paris''. An illegible silversmith's mark and a number ''14'' are also present. A pupil of Charles-Joseph Roufosse and Émile Scailliet, Alexandre Caron became a Member of French Artists in 1893. He obtained an honorable mention at the 1898 Salon. Suzanne'' and ''Après le bain'' which is the title of the statuette presented here. The Luxembourg Museum keeps an ivory Venus of him. Note the attention to detail which expresses aesthetics and sensuality in the beautiful attitude of this subject, the position of the legs, the slight swaying and the gesture of the hands rolling up her long hair. The gross weight is 598 grams, the weight of the sculpture alone 360 grams. Late 19th or early 20th century.
