Nice sketch by Paul Renouard.

Charming black pencil drawing signed Paul Renouard, certainly representing a moving scene inspired by the tradition of Commedia dell'Arte. We discover a group of costumed characters, each character wearing a feather costume and a bird's beak mask. The main character captures the viewer's attention with his expressive gaze. 

Titled “Departure of the Birds,”  the drawing features an intriguing caption at the bottom: “write to my (?).” 

About the artist: Paul Renouard (1845-1924), recognized French painter and draftsman, marked the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century with his historical works, portraits and landscapes. A student of masters Vernet and Barrias, he made his debut at the Salon of 1878. Among his notable works is a scene from the Battle of Soigny, painted on the flag of the Vendôme national guard.

The drawing bears the workshop stamp “RENOUARD”. The frame is original, made by Maison A. Bouchard, 14 rue Monsieur le Prince, Paris 6th, with a back that has remained intact since the time.
