Object description :

"Directoire Mahogany & Lemon Tree Sofa Attributed To Jacob, Inspired By Mme Recamier At The Louvre"
Beautiful mahogany, lemon tree and ebony veneer sofa. Directoire period Work, very late 18th century around 1795-1800. This bench is typical of the so-called Etruscan style, very fashionable at the end of the 18th century and directly inspired by excavations from Greco-Roman antiquity, drawn by the painter David. Not stamped, our seat is certainly the work of one of the greatest Parisian seatmakers, very probably Georges Jacob.

Its roll-up backrest, its mahogany and moiré lemon tree veneer reminding us Madame Récamier's Jacob set exhibited at the Louvre Museum (in a simpler version), guided our inspiration for the restoration. NB: the filter of the digital camera modifies the color of the blue, which is actually more blue-grey. (a coupon can be sent on request).

Our sofa is thus a real prototype, a precursor of what will later become the Empire style, the work of a great "designer" of the 18th century!
Excellent condition, old restorations. The varnish and blue cover are new.
Very nice model, rare collector's item, easy to place anywhere due to its small size.

Height: 93cm
Seat height: 40cm
Width: 144cm
Depth: 73cm
