"18th Century, French Louis XVI Carved Giltwood Console "
18th Century, French Louis XVI Carved Giltwood Console

This elegant wooden console finely carved and golden, fully represents the taste that was established in France in the second half of the eighteenth century, in the Louis XVI era.
The half-moon furniture has a marble top Broccatello of Spain. The band below has refined carvings with gilded decorations of Louis XVI taste plant-shaped of classical inspiration, inscribed in elegant frames and reserves. The four legs, which evoke tapered and grooved columns of classic taste, have capitals in composite style composed of ionic volutes and acanthus leaves. The legs originate from the undermount band from a nut centred by a stylized rosette. They are then joined at the bottom by two crossbars, one linear and another semi-circular on whose meeting point rests a flowery vase with traps in the shape of a moray eel.
In the important noble palaces the consoles were among the most sought after furnishings, emblem of the wealth of the client, to show off in the large halls of representation. This type of furniture, small and highly decorative, is still today of great scenic effect and contributes to the elegance and sophistication of any environment that hosts it, whether modern or antique.
