Portrait of Prince Valdemar Christian of Schleswig-Holstein of Denmark (1622-1656) Dutch School Large 17th century portrait of Prince Valdemar Christian of Schleswig-Holstein of Denmark, son of King Christian IV, oil on canvas. Excellent quality and condition portrait of the young heir who failed to succeed to the throne and later married Irene, daughter of Tsar Micheal of Russia. Here he is depicted in ceremonial armor with heavy gold detailing, the royal sash, and an elaborate lace collar. He died in battle in Poland in 1656. Presented in a gilt frame. relining.
