Statue known under the title: the Angelus or the Palms, representation of a young girl carrying an olive branch, her rosary in hand. Benefiting from a high quality of production, this bronze edition from the end of the 19th century succeeds in transmitting the depth and the religious spirit desired by Léonard Agathon, the creator of the original work (in marble) which was exhibited at the Salon de 1894. Good general condition, nuanced brown/light patina, golden on the branch. Signature on the base, numbering under the base. Léonard Van Weydeveld dit Agathon (1841/1923) is a French sculptor of Belgian origin, he began his artistic studies at the School of Fine Arts in Lille and began exhibiting at the Salon in 1868 with the Society of French Artists. In 1896 he entered the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts where his works were exhibited from 1896 to 1914. Appreciated for his elegant and graceful female subjects, his style naturally fell within the spirit of Art-Nouveau. In addition to numerous distinctions, in 1900 he was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
