His friend François Soubeyran — one of the four members of the Jacques brothers — was a singer but also a potter and introduced him to working the clay. Marie-Jo Bourron enrolled in evening classes at the Beaux-Arts in Paris in 19684. Very quickly, she worked in clay, marble, bronze and exhibited for the first time in 1974 in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants. She will exhibit practically every year in France but also in the United States, Germany, Switzerland, both individually and in groups, notably in 1988 in Chicago as a duo, at the Jacques Baruch5 gallery with the photographer Lucien Clergue and the painter Sacha Chimkevitch Drawing from Rodin the gesture and the control, Marie-Jo Bourron worked with a freedom and a modernity in the expression which gives to her work a unique aspect. She was a complete artist. Attacking classic materials such as bronze and marble, she renews her repertoire by using original plasters that she patinates, cast or molded resins, other composites and finally, clay. This last material is his favorite medium. Marie-Jo Bourron is directly inspired by Camille Claudel. Like the latter, she is one of the few women to sculpt, and also pursues her quest for realism. Marie-Jo endows her nudes with a similar touch, works her poses and her patinas. She brings a bold novelty. Marie-Jo Bourron experiments with a wide range of techniques ranging from direct carving in marble to stamping in terracotta, including lost wax, casting, molding or even the assembly of randomly found objects. She can be compared to the sculptor César, a great innovator in 20th century sculpture techniques.
