An important darken wood rectangular casket inlaid with mother-of-pearl, tortoisehell and brass. The lid and the main face of this casket present a rich decoration composed of gilded rinceau, flowers and scrolling foliate. Clear ochre velvet interior.
Boulle marquetry work: This decorative technique uses cut-outs of copper, brass and red tortoise shell cut to form negative and symmetrical designs. Boulle furniture dates back to Louis XIV. Many good copies were produced in the 19th century under Napoleon III.
