"Lower Court A Defaux (1826/1900)"
Oil on canvas 19th century Dim with frame 59/45cm Dim without frame 45/31 cm French school Signed A Defaux bd Biography: Wikipedia Alexandre Defaux was born in Bercy, a town then on the outskirts of ParisN 1. Mainly known for his paintings on the oil, Defaux also practices pastel and watercolour. He is a figure of the second generation of painters from the School of Barbizon in the line of Jean-Baptiste Corot – of whom he was a pupil – and Jean-François Millet. His early landscapes reflect the influence of Corot with large urban panoramic views and figures in Neapolitan peasant costume. He is known for his paintings of sunny farmyards filled with chickens or geese. Our work is a nice little painting representing a barnyard in a 19th century farmhouse. Alexandre Defaux is a specialist in chicken tables as mentioned above. We find in this painting a touch of paint specific to the artist. The rendering of the walls with unsealed stones, of the door, of which you can perfectly feel the wood of the material planks, adds to the realism of the scene.
