"Ceramic Vase – Serre Georges (1889-1956)"
Important ceramic vase with ovoid body and hemmed neck on heel. Rich decoration rolled up on the collar in white and green as well as at the base. The body is decorated with geometric designs under a chamotte cover. Signed under the base: G Serré. Georges SERRE was an apprentice ceramist at Sèvres, then a teacher at local art schools in Saigon, which explains the influence of ceramics from the Far East in his work. He returned to Sèvres in 1922 and created his own workshop there where he produced ceramics of very high quality, refined and personal, sometimes with anomalies affecting all their charm. These are thick sandstones, rich at first with their only enamels then enhanced with geometric or figurative decorations engraved under glaze, inspired by Kmer ceramics. Very good state. Height: 27 cm, diameter: 20 cm. Twentieth century.
