"French School Second Quarter Of The XX Century : "virgin Of Intercession""
French school, second quarter of the 20th century: "Virgin of intercession", monoxyle sculpture (oak or chestnut) 83 X 19 X 18 cm formerly varnished brown then coated with red ocher. Freely inspired by the Romanesque Virgins, this intriguing sculpture is to be linked to those artists who renewed Sacred Art after the First World War, such as Lambert-Rucki or Marie Vassilieff, its primitive side of the exaggeration of proportions further accentuating the emotion it exudes. It was fixed by a long iron plate which was twisted in the back, certainly in an open chapel or a niche partially exposed to the weather which slowly gullied it. Previous origin: Basque Country.
