According to Wikipedia: Employee of the National Library in Paris, Charles Guilloux is a self-taught artist that critics like Gabriel-Albert Aurier, Félix Fénéon or Rémy de Gourmont associate with the Symbolist movement. From 1891, his work was well received at the exhibitions of the Society of Independent Artists, then at the "Impressionists and Symbolists" exhibitions at the Barc de Boutteville. Very quickly, the titles of his works became more elliptical, sometimes tinged with musical connotations (Scherzo lunaire, 1894, location unknown) and the origin of his paintings less and less identifiable. This structuring of space and the exacerbation of shapes and colors commented on by André Mellerio (1862–1943) in his book The Idealist Movement in Painting (1896), are found in many works by Charles Guilloux such as Lever de lune sur un canal (Moulins, Anne-de-Beaujeu museum) or Landscape at dusk (Beauvais, Oise departmental museum). He exhibited at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1905, then at the Salon des Indépendants between 1911 and 1914. In 2007, the Musée d'Orsay in Paris acquired his Crépuscule (1892)2 and his Bords de Seine au twilight ( 1894).
