The piece dates from the time of Hieron II (Syracuse 308-215 BC) King Hieron is best known for being the contemporary of Archimedes.
The legend tells how the young Archimedes would have proven that the crown of King Hieron was not made of gold by comparing the volume of water displaced by the crown and by the same mass of gold.
The coin depicts the bearded Poseidon on one side and the trident on the other side.
