"3 20th Century Ceramics By: Pierre Lebasque, Jacqueqs Innocenti And Robert Picault. Vallauris"
I offer these 3 ceramics from the 20th century around 1950 at the price of €290 each or €780 for the 3. - Pierre Lebasque (1912-1994): rare ceramic tile representing a bullfighting scene from 1958, marked on the back of the frame (no disassembled) Dimensions of the tile alone: 20x20cm. In a perfect state. Very nice work typical of the ceramist, thick polychrome enamels with desired reserves. Pierre Lebasque is a French sculptor and ceramist, born in Montfort-sur-Risle in 1912 and died in Rouen in 1994. A pioneer of modern ceramics, he became famous at the age of 18-20 with his innovative animal earthenware, modeled vigorously, alive, expressive and covered with dazzling and textured polychrome enamels. There he learned drawing and painting from his father, the famous painter Henri Lebasque. At the end of the 1920s, Pierre Lebasque launched into art pottery using clay from Vallauris. His brother-in-law, earthenware ceramist Jacques Lenoble (1902-1967) helped him in his apprenticeship and, like him, used the ovens at L'Hospied in Golfe-Juan. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon d'Automne in 1930. Success was immediate thanks to his modern and innovative ceramics of enameled polychrome animals. In the 1930s, in addition to the Salons, he exhibited at the Malesherbes, Pétridès, Rouard galleries, etc. He became a member of the Salon des artistes décorateurs, member of the steering committee of the National Society of Fine Arts, member of the Society of Animalists. In 1935, the Sèvres factory offered him to come for a few months to produce unique ceramic sculptures. In 1937, for the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques, the State and the city of Paris ordered monumental fountains from him for the approval of the Architecture pavilion and the Ceramics pavilion. The first represents a statuette standing on a conch, with a pinkish gray faience body and holding an emerald green fish; the second an amalgam of Mediterranean fish forming jets of water. In the early 1940s, Pierre Lebasque, then demobilized, opened his utility ceramics workshop in Marseille. In the mid-1950s, he returned to his childhood town of Le Cannet on the Côte d'Azur. Thereafter, he will teach ceramics at the technical school of Cannes then will also become artistic director of the ceramics factory "Clausonnes" in Grasse. Jacques Innocenti (1926-1958): Cup decorated with a young woman, hollow decoration called "scrafiato", black on a white background enhanced with green enamel in places. Signed below the hollow monogram. Height; 4cm diameter: 12.5cm Very good condition, a tiny hair on 5/6mm, almost invisible, zero restoration. Nor will I introduce Jacques Innocenti, a famous ceramist in Vallauris between 1945 and 1958, the date of a fatal accident that will halt his career. He had learned the trade of ceramist from his parents Odette Gourju and Lyuba Naumovitch, together they founded the Grand Chêne workshop where Jacques worked before founding his own workshop. He is famous today for his decorations of women, animals or still lifes stylized in the spirit of Picasso and for his work of scrafiatos in black on a white background. His pieces remain rare because of his early death. Robert Picault (1919-2000): Very large ceramic fish dish decorated with white extra thick fish (barolet decoration) on a shiny black background. Piece made in Longchamps in the 1960s. Length of this dish: 63cm Very good condition. He will indeed perform several services in the Longchamps factory, either on black, white, yellow or green backgrounds (see last photos for documentation). I no longer present Robert Picault, a famous ceramist, who founded the Callis workshop with Capron and Derval before creating his own workshop in Vallauris. He will then create decorations for several factories. Renowned for his utilitarian pieces, he will also create some unique artistic pieces.
