This allegory, from a series of the four elements, was produced in several versions by the dynasty of Brueghel, Van Balen, Van Kessel, and other painters of the Flemish school throughout the 17th century. The water is personalized by the goddess Amphitrite, accompanied by putti who seem to play with an important marine fauna, fish, shells, crustaceans... We find this pleasant subject, where the eye can linger for a long time, always discovering new details in several museums and major collections.
