"Raymond Dierickx : "carpet Dealer At The Beach""
Raymond Dierickx (1904-1978) "Carpet merchant on the beach in Belgium", oil on hard cardboard 48.5 X 65.5 cm mounted in a gilt baguette with white marie-louise 64 X 75 cm. Slightly more recent than the other works that we present, probably the end of the 1950s, this carpet merchant unrolling his wares in front of a couple he is trying to tempt on a Belgian beach, Ostend or Knokke le Zoute teeming with busier summer visitors to bathe, sunbathe or build sand castles… Superb composition punctuated by wagon huts and treated in a rich and very seductive palette. The thick cardboard is a little concave, but the work is in perfect condition. It was a real discovery for us that this beautiful Belgian artist! Even found in sheets and dusted, these drawings, once prepared and framed, reveal all the talent of Dierickx, close to artists such as Nicolas Eeckmann, Fritz Van den Berghe, Constant Permeke or other typically Flemish expressionists such as Anto Carte, representing Fêtes , processions, fairs in the great tradition of Flemish painters dating back to the 17th century with the Brughels, but treated in a very modern way. Other facets of his work show us his projects for frescoes or large decorations, often exotic, while in the old watercolors, we find a Symbolist vein with an elongated barrel.
