Nanjing Porcelain Lamp, China - Late 19th Century

Large lamp formed of a pot-bellied vase, with a flat seat, in Chinese Nanjing porcelain, with a beige crackled background. This lamp has a polychrome enamel decoration revolving with a finely illustrated battle scene between Asian warriors. It is decorated in relief with Fô dogs on the collar and fantastic animals resembling lizards on the shoulder. This luminaire is topped with a fringed lampshade, antique white colour, with a metal frame, covered with an embroidered fabric at the bottom.

This lamp, stamped under the bottom, is the artistic testimony of the ceramists of the Qing dynasty. ********
