Rare mythological Empire clock representing the god Zephyr. Zephyr (or Zephyrus), is the Greek god of the west wind. The sweetest of winds, known as the fruitful wind, the messenger of spring. Empire clock in gilded bronze resting on feet in the shape of butterfly wings. The base is decorated with a frieze representing the goddess Aphrofite surrounded by flowers and trees. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite emerges from the waves and is carried to the island of Cyprus by the Zephir wind. Zephyr entrusts Aphrodite to the Hours (servants of the gods who will later personify the four seasons) who will perfect her education.
