18th century bronze "couvot" spade. Nice openwork with a fleur-de-lys.
The couvot was a pot with a handle in which coals were placed and which served as a heater.

Collections of couvot shovels are kept at the Le Secq des Tournelles museum in Rouen (mainly in iron) and at the Lorrain museum in Nancy (see last picture).
