"Pantry Drainer In Solid Chestnut - Mid-19th Century"
Rare Pantry Drainer at Support Height, from the Breton Region. This Character Furniture is entirely designed in Solid Chestnut. In the Upper part, it opens with a single leaf door, revealing two Storage Spaces separated by a Mobile shelf, placed on Fixed Cleats. The panel sees its Frame sculpted with Naïve Foliage and its Angles cut in Spandrels, thus drawing Shells. In its center is represented a Face in profile, that of a Breton woman arranged with her Coiffe d'Antan. Below, this Provincial Furniture offers a Drawer, 7 cm deep. Its facade has the same foliage reliefs as those of the door. The Drainer part, at the bottom, is made up on its three visible faces and in its angles, of Blackened Wood Spindles. These elements harmonize with the small Ball feet at the front. The back legs are straight and unpainted. The hinges, the entrance, the lock and the key of the door, as well as the pull button of the drawer are in perfect working order and of origin. Historical parenthesis, this furniture of yesteryear, initially used to protect and preserve food, was mainly reserved for peasants. Nevertheless, they benefited from an interesting Wood Quality. We will appreciate this typical Breton pantry for its reasonable dimensions and its versatility, which will give it a place in any place for daily use. ******** Period: Mid-19th century.
