Jules Paul Brateau, born November 2, 1844 in Bourges and died October 23, 1923 in Fécamp, was a French sculptor, goldsmith, jeweler and pewter potter. (thanks wikipedia).Superb pewter dish, Louis XV shape with contours, wing modeled with Baroque scenes: views of Olympus , Gods and Goddesses playing with laughing cherubs, standing out against a gold granite background.
On centre: the large monogram with 2 interlaced L and 3 Fleurs de Lys of French Kingdom on a gilt background, embellished with a lily throw.
Work bears hallmark of the Master.
Good condition, the gilding, very rare, is intact, apart from a stain on back of dish.
Untraceable work of an incredible goldsmith.
