"Stamped Claude Chevigny (master In 1768), Shepherdess Of Louis XVI Period, XVIII Eme Period"
Very rare Louis XVI period shepherdess stamped Claude Chevigny (received master in 1768) in waxed and patinated beech. Before the Revolution, the Chevigny workshop was located rue de Cléry where it distinguished itself in the manufacture of luxury seats. His creations are mainly in the Louis XVI style, always very well made, with neat finishes and lines of great purity. He made many orders for the Duke of Choiseul and his Château de Chanteloup as well as for the Montmorency family. Our armchair has sober and refined lines, typical of the work of Chevigny. The woodwork is in very good condition (tiny small scattered traces of wear), reinforcements have been added under the seat to maintain perfect solidity and stability. This seat was originally to be lacquered, indeed tiny traces of old paint are visible in the wood fibers at the rear legs. The covering fabric is in very good quality Genoa velvet, in cream and midnight blue tones. Extremely comfortable seat. Together in very good condition. Note, a small stain of blue ink on the left armrest of the seat (visible on photos of details) We would like to point out that a second bergère from the same period, same style, with the same fabric but not being stamped and forming a pair with our shepherdess is available on our gallery (see last photo)
