"The Capponi family" originates from Florence, known since Copagno Capponi in the 14th century. A branch of this family settled in Italy with Lorenzo Capponi (1512, Florence – 1573, Lyon). He settled in Lyon, around 1530, he was a banker, he married on April 22, 1554 Hélène de Gadagne, lady of Ambérieux in Dombes. He was knighted in the order of Saint-Michel by King Charles IX, naturalized French in 1553, he then bought the barony of Crèvecoeur. He had been appointed by Thomas de Gadagne to manage his bank in Lyon and he would marry his eldest daughter. During the dreadful plague of 1573, he fed and maintained, at his own expense, four thousand poor people in Lyons. "This dish was probably made for his descendant, Gilbert François de Capponi, marquis de Combronde, (1730-1788) major general of the king's armies in Martinique, knight of the royal and military order of Saint-Louis". He bought the marquisate of Combronde on June 14, 1764 from the heirs of Jean Jacques Amelot, minister and secretary of state who died on May 7, 1749. He married on October 2, 1761, Anne Rose Moreau de Nassigny (1743-1807). She emigrated with her brother-in-law, Gilbert Henri, to Italy during the Revolution in her husband's family, and her property was seized. She returned as soon as she had the opportunity and was collected for a time at the general hospital in Riom, to which she gave, in gratitude, four-fifths of the assets she had been able to recover. The French branch of the Capponi family seems to have died out at the beginning of the 19th century.
