Rare Boxwood Statuette From The End Of The XVII Eme Century: The Loves Of Mars And Venus"
Rare "minuscula" boxwood statue, from the end of the 17th century beginning of the 18th century, sculpture workshop in South Germany, museum quality. This is a lovely sculpture in the round representing the loves of Mars and Venus.
the two lovers rest on a sculpted mound on which rests a shield decorated with engraved motifs.
Mars, dressed in armor, stands tight against naked Venus placed in front of him, hiding her nudity with a modest veil.
this beautiful Venus with its mannerist spirit will not fail to remind you of some masterpieces from the Haute Epoque and the Renaissance.
very good quality of execution, no restoration, monoxyle, a superb piece of museum quality.
very slight fracture to the right foot of Venus, without gravity.
beautiful old patina.
height: 9.7 cm.
