Pair of Empire period ormolu and patinated sconces, decorated with winged Victories in sheath, holding the four arms of light and resting on a globe. The patinated bronze shafts are decorated with triumphal crowns and winged torches. The arms of light are finely chiselled with palmettes, griffins and masks. They rest on lion heads. The ornamentation of this set of sconces, rigorously symmetrical, is built around the allegorical figure of the Roman Victory and its main attributes. The Victory was a real cult in Imperial Rome and became a decorative motif representative of the Empire style. The sconces are in very good condition.
