Meissen, for the handles
A complete cutlery (fork, knife, spoon)
Painted hard paste and pompone
Meissen, Germany, circa 1750 - 1780
Dimensions : L. of the knife: 22 cm.
Very nice complete cutlery, the handles in Meissen hard paste porcelain, painted with polychrome flowers, and enhanced with wickerwork reliefs. The mounts are in pomponium.
This cutlery reflects the revival of tableware in the second third of the 18th century. Silverware was eclipsed by porcelain. Although porcelain was no longer a novelty, it became popular even among the petty bourgeoisie. The main reason for this was the use of hard paste in Germany and France in factories such as Meissen : Europeans no longer had to depend to the same extent on Asian imports, which brought down the cost of these services.
