A silver mounted rock crystal miniature altarpiece.

Spanish, mid 17th century.

The rock crystal measures 12 x 6.5 x 0.8cm, the overall height is 21cm including its base.

The personal altarpiece comprises of a fine and clear piece of rock crystal engraved with objects relating to the passion of Christ, the edges of which are carved to emulate a sun-burst. The plaque is surmounted with a rock crystal crucifix, secured by a silver-gilt winged putto, another one secures it to the silver mount on its turned ebonised base.
