Beautiful copy of this complete series in 3 volumes of the Roman historian Tacitus.
Parisian edition published by Desaint, Saillant and Barbou in 1760.
Very neat edition, in Latin and illustrated with vignettes and frontispieces illustrated by Charles-Dominique-Joseph Eisen, one of the greatest illustrators and engravers of the 18th century, in this book, the illustrations are engraved by Lempereur.
All three volumes are in period full leather bindings, very homogeneous, in good condition despite scuffs, a slight lack of leather on the 4th cover of the 1st volume and a small crack on the 4th cover of this same volume, small defects of leather at the lower cuts and at the corners. Triple frames of gilt fillets on the covers and double title pieces in red morocco on the backs. Ornate spine with fleurons, entirely gilt edges, a border of gilt lace on the interior contreplats, where are also affixed the old bookplates of A. Bidermann (probably from the 19th century). Very slight traces of old marginal wetting, pale and not very visible on the first and last pages of volume 3, an older handwritten ex-libris in pen has also been erased by its second owner.
This edition is the original of this publication and will be reissued later in 1793 which is more common.
