Object description :

"Pair Of Small Bibus In Speckled Mahogany, Sormani Taste - Late Nineteenth"
Set of two Bibuses, results of remarkable Parisian work, reminiscent of the Creations of Paul Sormani (1817 - 1877). The Famous Italian Cabinetmaker founded the House of the same name in 1847 in the French capital. The company quickly specialized in the reproduction of 18th century Small Furniture, particularly those inspired by the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. The Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, by decorating her Palaces with works by Sormani, contributed to her fame, and the Artist's work was rewarded on several occasions at the Universal Exhibitions. These Bibuses are entirely designed in Speckled Mahogany. Only the tops are in Marble, in Dark Green and Purple colors nuanced with White veining. These trays are surrounded by grooved brass rods. The interiors, with holes at regular intervals, are in the state furnished with three shelves by Furniture, placed on cleats. These are therefore perfectly adjustable and their distribution can be modulated. The upper crosspieces of these Bibuses are Gracefully Curved, and the uprights are Rounded. These Small Libraries rest on plinths demarcated by brass rods, and finished with curved Louis XV-style legs. Those at the front are embellished with Wrought Bronze Chutes. We will recognize the Softness of the lines, the Elegance and the great Adaptability of these Small Fancy Furniture. At the International Exhibition of 1867, Sormani's work was described as "production revealing a Quality of Execution of the very first Order". Terms that would apply perfectly to this Pair of Bibus. ******** Period: Late 19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop. Varnished finish after stripping the old one.
