Object description :

"Davenport Desk In Walnut, England Origin - Mid-19th Century"
Small Middle Secretary, Victorian period, in Burl Walnut. This piece of furniture comes in two parts: in the upper part a desk, surmounted by an inkwell space, which discovers a locker, and in the lower part a desk with multiple storage spaces. A tilted flap, opening with a key, reveals a Lemon tree interior arranged with four niches and four false drawers with Rosewood Buttons. The writing space is lined with Brown Leather with Central Vignette and Golden Friezes on the perimeter. This desk is crowned with an inkwell in the shape of an ogee which, once opened using its small original key, offers mahogany compartments of different sizes. The Writing desk part, and its moving front, are supported by two legs in solid Walnut with a pronounced curve. They are Generously Sculpted with Foliage and finished in Windings. The right side of the cabinet is made up of four drawers of identical dimensions. Each of them is equipped with two round pull buttons and a functional lock accompanied by its key. Note that the interiors of these openings are in solid Mahogany. The left side face feigns an identical design, but the drawers are actually dummy. The set rests on a base, itself installed on four ball feet. The latter are equipped with discreet casters, making it even easier to move this desk, which is already easy to handle. The Davenport, formerly appreciated in England by the Royal Navy in particular for its Multifunctional aspect, can also today be chosen as a Small State Furniture. It should be noted that the one presented here has the particularity of being made of light wood, which is quite unusual. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
