Luxury Sword Lxv, Decor Demons' Faces

This sword is special for two reasons: First of all by the quality of the carvings of its mounting, which place it clearly above the average of the swords of the XVIIIth century. Then by the astonishing choice of patterns that decorate this frame: in fact, we find in different places 6 somewhat disturbing demon faces staring at the viewer.
One might at first suppose that the disheveled, curly-haired faces facing these demons might be angels, but a close examination, which shows their grimacing expression and aggressive dentition, inclines them to be classified more as ghouls and gorgons than as cherubim and seraphim...
Let us remember that the 18th century, if it was the Age of Enlightenment, also experienced a surge in satanic cults and black masses...
BLADE: It is a blade with 3 hollow faces, typical of swords "in the the musketeer's fashion” from the 1st half of the 18th century.
On each side there are engravings that feature plant representations and the endless mystical knot, which is a sign of longevity.
The tip of the blade is slightly more oxidized than the rest, probably due to residual moisture when the blade was in the sheath for a long time.
Blade length = 72.5 cm width near the guard 2.1 cm, thickness 0.8 cm.
GUARD: it is a guard with 2 reniform shells, finely chiseled both outside and inside.
Outside: on each half-guard: 2 birds looking behind their backs surround the representations of a demon's head wearing a “hat” in which a triangle is depicted.
At the outer edge of the trays, face of a grimacing man.
Inside: The same grimacing men's faces on the edge of the tray, and plant motifs.
Two "pas d'âne" or finger rings which are functional (sign of a manufacture of the first half of the 18th century since from 1750, these pas d'âne will decrease more and more).
The quillons end asmonsters' heads. Note that the quillon which is curved is not twisted following an accident, but curved voluntarily, it was a fashion at the time to prevent it from getting caught in the clothes of the wearer.
POMMEL : it is faceted, finely chiselled with decorations of plants in relief, and we  find ton emore time he disturbing demons and the grimacing faces of men.
GRIP : in wood covered with the original twisted copperwire binding  filigree, in perfect condition. T
he braided copper "turk's heads" ferrules are present and original.
This sword is guaranteed to be 100% authentic and unrestored.
