The Storm, 17th Century by Bonaventure Peeters (1614-1652) Large 17th century Dutch old master depiction of naval and fishing vessels caught in a storm off a rocky coast, oil on canvas by Bonaventura Peeters. Excellent quality, early and important example of the artists work as figures watch from the rocks as several ships battle to distance themselves from the perilous rocks. Exceptional treatment of clouds, light and water typical of Peeters best work. A small tear in the upper left that we can easily repair at low cost. Presented in an antique gilt frame with plaque inscriptions and artist labels on the reverse. Dimensions: 37" x 32.5" framed approximately
