Rare and thick / heavy collection embossed and chiseled brass alms dish in with a radiant design in its center depicting "the Annunciation"
17th century Nürnberg workshops (Germany)
"The scene is in this alms dish is the Annunciation. On the left of the central motif is the holly virgin who s sitting down on a faldstool, with her long hair and very long tunic. Right on the middle of the scene is a vase full of flowers while the archangel is on the left, kneeling in front of the Madonna. A haloed dove, symbolizing the Holy spirit can be seen high over the 2 figures
The main scene is framed and embelished with punching of flowers stamped concentrically on first regiter. And a geometrical second one on the edge.
Another great feature of this artifact is the accurate and meticulous attention to detail. All these features suggest this artefcat could be one of the first with the Annunciation scene to have been produced using a pre-built metal mould. A similar example to this one can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum (Art n° M354-1924) in London"
