Chez Giacomo Scaglia à Venise [In Venetia], 1630 – Very beautiful Italian edition, first edition of the text in its final version after having been censored during its first publication 6 years earlier in 1624. This heroic-comic poem sings in burlesque verse the conflict between Modena and Bologna by parodying the methods of epic poetry. The title derives from the fact that the only booty obtained by the victorious side, Modena, was the bucket of wood from a well, which is still kept in the city today.
Bound in full contemporary vellum or very slightly later, title in pen on the back, the vellum is clean overall, some minor defects, the interior is also rather well preserved, title page a little soiled, some fairly slight traces and foxing, some slightly offset signatures, slightly visible at the edge. Beautiful condition for this rare work in an early edition of one of the important texts by the author of Jerusalem Delivered, one of the greatest Italian classics.
In-16, 384p + 1p of “Lettore” at the end.
