French school circa 1930: "Reading in the grass", oil on cardboard to paint 23.5 X 32.5 cm cut irregularly. Preserved for a long time in my collection, I decided to put on sale this charming painting with accents both Fauvist and Impressionist. Despite the vagaries of time (a few scratches and chippings in the center and edges cut "à la diable"), the work exudes a serenity and a poetry that are difficult to render in a photograph: ample touch reworked on the handle of the brush, this young woman with flat on her stomach in the grass at the edge of a wood is reading, one leg lifted up her ample skirt.
