"Prudent Louis Leray (1820 - 1879) "flowers For Madame""
Prudent Louis Leray (1820 – 1879). Oil on wood panel, “Flowers for Madame”. A pupil of Paul Delaroche, Prudent Louis Leray exhibited for the first time at the Louvre Salon in 1848. Since then, his works have appeared with great success at all the annual Salons. Endowed with a fine and delicate talent, he excels in genre paintings, where coquetry and grace confer a poetic character. Very meticulous in the details of his compositions, his paintings constitute a veritable museum of costume from the time of Louis XV, a time he particularly likes. As often in the genre scenes he represents, this is a story that is told to us. A gentleman is about to reward the servant he has entrusted the mission of delivering flowers and probably a message to the lady he is courting... The panel measures 12,79 inches X 9,33 inches, The frame in wood and stucco measures 14,84 inches X 11,41 inches. France, circa 1860.
