"Painting On Canvas With Golden Frame, By A. Delahogue - 1892"
Oil Painting on Rectangular Canvas, by Alexis Auguste Delahogue (1867 - 1950). This French Orientalist Painter devotes himself, like his twin brother Eugène Jules, to the representations of Landscapes, and more specifically to Maghreb scenes. However, it is the commune of Porte-Joie, in the Eure, that the Artist from Soissons has chosen to show us here. This small Norman village, which since 2018 and its merger with Tournedos sur Seine has been called Porte de Seine, has several buildings, mainly religious, listed in the inventory of Cultural Heritage. We see one of them, in the center of the Canvas, alongside small houses with varying roof heights. The hamlet is part of a green environment, hilly in the background, and trees on the left. This Landscape, located on the banks of the Seine, is reflected in the water of the river. This Painting is set in a Golden Frame, Molded on the inside, and Scalloped on the outside. The Work is signed by its author at the bottom left of the Canvas, and dated 1892. We will appreciate the Sobriety and Harmony of the colors chosen by the Artist for the realization of this Painting, where Sky and Water mainly occupy the 'space. ******** Period: 1892 Perfect condition.
