"The Young Girl Maurice Dekorte"
small terracotta from the art deco period by Maurice De Korte, born August 8, 1889 in Schaerbeek and died April 5, 1971 in Watermael-Boitsfort, was a Belgian sculptor. In 1907, at age 16 Maurice De Korte, whose name s He also spelled Korte or Dekorte began training as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels with the sculptor Victor Rousseau. He also took painting lessons there with Paul Du Bois and Émile Fabry. 1958, Maurice De Korte was professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai and participated in exhibitions in Ghent, Brussels, Liège and Tournai. Maurice De Korte moved to Anderlecht in 1922. Two of his sculptures, Agriculture and Industry, have adorned the Grand Palais du Heysel in Brussels since the Universal Exhibition of 1935. Several of his works can be seen in parks and public spaces, as well as at the Musée des beaux -arts de Tournai and at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Liège.
